Curfew re-imposed in Imphal over fake encounter killings
Imphal, Aug 11 (ANI): Curfew was re-imposed in Imphal on Tuesday following protests over the killing of a youth in a fake encounter.
According to official sources, a partial relaxation in an indefinite curfew was withdrawn after agitators tried to defy restrictions.
Indefinite curfew was re-imposed from 9:00 a.m.
Security was beefed up around Raj Bhawan and the Chief Minister's office complex after agitators made an attempt to submit a memorandum to Governor Gurbachan Jagat.
Earlier, the eight-day-old curfew was relaxed over the weekend.
The Apunba Lup (A L) had called for a 48-hour general strike to protest the killing of 27-year-old Chungkham Sanjit in a fake encounter.
Manipur Police maintains that Sanjit was a militant and was killed in an encounter by police commandos on July 23 in the Imphal market complex. (ANI)
