B'lore school shuts after student gets Swine Flu

Bangalore, Aug 10: The Frank Anthony Public School (FAPS) in Bangalore on Monday, Aug 10 has decided to close down for week after a Class II student tested positive for Swine Flu on Sunday, Aug 9.

The health department held a meeting with zonal officers after class II student tested positive for virus. Meanwhile, BBMP took immediate action for preliminary screening in the school.

Dr. T S Cheluvaraj, joint director, department of health and family welfare said, "As and when schools are identified, the team from BBMP will be pressed into service for administering prophylaxis Tamiflu to those who came in contact with the victim."

An official of the school confirmed that one of the students has been receiving swine flu treatment at a private hospital. "The school has been closed as a precautionary step to stop the spread of the virus," official said.

Principal Secretary (Health) I. R. Perumal told news agency that the boy was admitted to Manipal Hospital in Jayanagar in south Bangalore and was being administered Tamiflu.
