Violence erupts in Varanasi after truck mows down schoolgirl

Varanasi, Aug 7 (ANI): Residents in Varanasi resort to violence after a 14-year-old schoolgirl was killed after being mowed down by a speeding truck on Friday.

The accident happened in the Mudela area when Pooja Patel, a schoolgirl studying in 9th class, was riding the pillion on her brother's motorbike.

A mob gathered at the accident site and torched the truck after forcing it to stop. The crowd also pelted stones on other parked trucks and vehicles.

"The crowd tried to torch a police jeep when police reached there. The crowd also pelted stones. We are taking necessary action," said PC Meena, Deputy Inspector General (DIG).

Police had a tough time to control the mob. Two arrests have been made.

In the past too, many accidents have taken place in Varanasi because of trucks over speeding on the national highways. (ANI)
