Oz assures India on safety of Indian students

Melbourne, Aug 7: Kevin Rudd, Australia Prime Minister on Friday, Aug 7 assured External Affairs Minister, SM Krishna that all steps have been taken to ensure the safety and security of Indian students in Australia.

After having discussions on issues like racial attacks in Australia on Indian students, Krishna expressed his satisfaction at the steps taken by the Australian government to eradicate the attacks.

Krishna said, "I am satisfied with the assurances give to me by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd."

He also said, "Prime Minister Rudd is fully aware of the sensitivity of the issues concerning students. He informed about the remedial measures already taken by the government. I am satisfied that Australian government at Federal and state levels are fully geared to meet the situation."

"Rudd described India as emerging power and I am convinced that Indian students coming here will be safe and taken care off," he added.

Kevin Rudd also said that Indian students were welcome in his country.
