London, Aug 6: French President Nicolas Sarkozy's recent jogging collapse has shot up his popularity by 12 pc.

The first opinion poll since his heath scare has shown a 12 per cent increase in those who think that the 54-year-old politician is succeeding as head of state.

The survey revealed that overall 53 per cent of the French people believe Sarkozy makes 'a good President', in contrast with 41 per cent in May 2009, reports the Telegraph.

However, just 38 per cent think the opposite, compared to 55 per cent three months ago.

The CSA poll for the Paris magazine VSD also revealed that 90 per cent of respondents believe that Sarkozy is still "dynamic", compared to 85 per cent in May 2009.

And 80 per cent consider him 'courageous'.

Nearly 50 per cent of the respondents now consider Sarkozy 'close' to the French people.
