New Delhi, Aug 6 (ANI): Proceedings in Parliament were disrupted on Thursday following Bharatiya Janata Party and the Akali protest Dal against the creation of a separate Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) in Haryana.
In the Rajya Sabha members of these two parties shouted slogans against a government proposal to divide the SGPC and demanded the suspension of Question Hour
Chairman Hamid Ansari urged members to allow the Question Hour to be taken up, but when the members failed to respond he adjourned the proceedings.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned twice during the Question Hour when Opposition members also protested against the move.
Ratan Singh Ajnala and Harsimrat Kaur of Akali Dal alleged that the Haryana Government had taken this step to create a controversy ahead of assembly elections in the state.
Yogi Adityanath of the BJP said this was an interference of the government in religious affairs.
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee urged the agitating members not to disrupt the Question Hour over this issue.
As the members of Akali Dal, BJP and JD (U) rushed to the well of the House and started shouting slogans, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the House.
The SGPC exist in Punjab only.(ANI)
