US: Indian 'Technovator' honoured with GIT award

Bangalore, Aug 6: The prestigious Global Indus Technovators (GIT) Award has been conferred upon Dr S Narasimha Murthy, a Pharmaceutical Scientist from Bangalore for his research on noninvasive methods of delivering drugs into the body.

Dr Murthy who is first to be given this honour is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutics, The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. His drug delivery research along with the development of novel techniques for treating various disorders has led to the development of various technologies.

Apart from developing electrically mediated techniques to sample drugs from the skin as a tool to monitor the effectiveness of the treatment, Dr Murthy has evolved techniques to deliver drugs rapidly across the nail plate to treat nail diseases such as onychomycosis.

Dr Murthy"s research group consists of graduate students and post doctoral research associates from India has also discovered the technique of magnetophoresis, a magnetically mediated method to enhance the drug delivery across the skin.

Dr Murthy's new techniques will prove beneficial to those patients who respond poorly to drugs.
