Obama invites Democrats to b'day lunch

Washington, Aug 4: US President Barack Obama will celebrate his 48th birthday on Tuesday, Aug 4, by having lunch with his Senate Democrats at the White House, his spokesman said on Monday, Aug 3.

Press secretary Robert Gibbs said, "Obama invited all 58 Democrats, and the two independents who typically vote with them, to the White House to continue to talk about the priorities that they have."

He also said, "I don't doubt that health care will be discussed. I believe the economy will also be heavily discussed. They'll go through and discuss energy legislation."

According to an administration official cited by the Washington Post, Obama kicked off his birthday a few days early with a weekend trip to Camp David, along with his wife, daughters and mother-in-law.

The Post said, "This year's birthday celebration will almost certainly pale in comparison to last year's, when 850 people joined him at a fundraiser in Boston."

"Obama, a White Sox fan, was given a Boston Red Sox-themed Hawaiian shirt, and he later passed out slices of birthday cake to more than three dozen journalists travelling with him," the Post added.
