SC refuses to stay on phasing out old vehicles

New Delhi, Jul 31: The Supreme Court on Friday, Jul 31 refused to grant interim stay on the Calcutta High Court judgement directing the West Bengal government to remove private bus and auto rickshaws which are 15-year-old.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan said that it would hear the petition seeking stay of High Court on Tuesday, Aug 4.

The private transport operators has approached the Apex Court against July 2008 judgement of the High Court which had directed the West Bengal government's move to remove all 15-year-old private buses and auto rickshaws from Aug 1.
