10 BHU students booked for ragging

Lucknow, Jul 30: The educational institutions of the country are finally cracking the whip against the ragging menace. After IIIT-A slapped a hefty fine of Rs 50,000 against 19 students for ragging freshers, 10 students of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) not only face the same fine, they have to now deal with a criminal case.

BHU spokesperson revealed that eight second year students and two third year students from B Tech stream were caught by the university's security staff Wednesday, Jul 29 ragging the first year students on the Assi Ghat.

"The university has imposed a fine of Rs.50,000 each on the students. They have been expelled from the hostel for six months and barred from attending classes for 15 days," Singh said.

Police has detained these students for questioning.

"A FIR (first information report) has been registered and we are interrogating the students," said superintendent of police (City) Vijay Bhushan.
