Sudan: Woman gets 40 lashes for wearing trousers

Nairobi, Jul 29: Lubna Ahmed Hussein, a Sudanese woman journalist is said to suffer 40 lashes on Wednesday, Jul 29 for wearing trousers in Sudan.

Lubna, a columnist and public information officer at the United Nation Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) was arrested in Khartoum along with 13 other women in early Jul 2009.

Ten of the other women were given 10 lashes for breaching Islamic law, but Lubna demanded a lawyer and delayed her trial.

She has also invited local and foreign journalists to view trial.
