Ensure more safety, security in railway operations: Mamata

New Delhi, July 29 (ANI): Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee called upon the general managers of all the zones to be more active in ensuring the safety and security of the passengers round the clock and is visible to all.

Banerjee was addressing the general managers of all the railway zones after inaugurating the two day National Conference of Railway General Managers here on Wednesday.

She asked the GMs to take measures to improve all aspects of operations specifically catering, cleanliness, punctuality, safety and security on the Railways, keeping social and economic obligations in mind.

Banerjee also underlined the need of continuous monitoring mechanism to improve the punctuality performance of the employees.

Banerjee stressed the strengthening of the vigilance departments of railways, and called upon to play more active and effective role in order to ensure more transparency and an efficient corruption free system. She also emphasized the need to further improve functioning of Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).

Calling for a time bound implementation of the project, Banerjee asked for the full use of the budgetary allocation, and suggested to constitute a monitoring committee at zonal level consisting of all core concerned departments to ensure effective implementation of the projects.

Banerjee added that the concerned officers would be made responsible for the delay in implementation of projects.

She asked the GMs to commercially utilize Railway's vacant land to mobilize the resource especially through Private Public Partnership (PPP) model and added that the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) needs to be more effective.

Outlining the beautification of railway stations and premises, Banerjee said local art, paintings and traditional symbols and designs should be given due place.

The ministry has decided to provide vacant land for setting up of medical colleges and schools for the benefit of the children of railway employees along with general public, Banerjee said. (ANI)
