London, July 26 (ANI): French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been asked to cut down the 'floral' expenses after an audit revealed that more than 600 pounds were being spent daily on bouquets for his official residence, the Champs Elysse'.

State auditor, Philippe Siguin has recommended the pruning of floral bills as well as food costs after Sarkozy ordered the opening of Elysee Palace accounts as part of his 'transparency' programme, The Sunday Times reports.

Sarkozy's move, however, has backfired with wife, Carla Bruni being blamed for the exorbitant florist bill.

Bruni, a folk singer and former top model, is said to be fond of fresh flowers, and is frequently pictured arranging huge vases full of them inside the Elysee.

At 241,000 pounds per year, the sum is even greater than what is spent by Elton John, who was revealed to spend around 460 pounds-a-day on flowers in 1997.

The sum has been revealed in presidential accounts for 2008, Sarkozy's first full year in office.

It was during the same time that Sarkozy made Bruni his third wife.(ANI)
