London, Jul 25: The American Jewish Committee is suing the German branch of online retailer Amazon for allegedly putting up books for sale, which questioned the Holocaust and 'trivialised' the Nazis.

The committee's research reports that almost 50 books instigating hate against the minorities were up for sale this month.

One of the books named is "Der Auschwitz-Mythos - Legende oder Wirklichkeit ("The Auschwitz Myth - Legend or Reality") by Wilhelm Staglich.

"It is unacceptable that books are for sale on Amazon.de that normally are only available under the counter in far-right extremist shops," the Telegraph quoted AJC as saying in a statement.

It added: "We cannot let the spread of internet sales erode laws that ban Holocaust denial and incitement to hatred of minorities in Germany."

A spokeswoman for Amazon Germany denied it sold any books that were banned or not suitable for those under 18.

"We think that the best response to questionable literature is not removing them but more discussion," a spokeswoman told.
