Iran: Plane skids off runway, 17 dead

Tehran, Jul 25: Accounting for the second plane mishap in two weeks, an Iranian passenger plane reportedly skid off the runaway on Friday, Jul 24 killing 17 people and injuring at least 20 people.

The plane carrying 153 passengers skid off the runway while landing in northeast Iran and crashed. The crash reduced the cockpit into a mass of wreckage.

The video of the crash shows the plane sitting on the tail while its front portion was pointing upwards.

According to IRNA news agency report the tires of the plane failed on landing and it skid into a wall. However, the footage of the crash shows no wall in the area.

The Russian-made Ilyushin-62 flew from the capital Tehran to the northeastern city of Mashhad. The plane which is owned by Aria Airlines. The manager of the airliner was on board and was one of the 17 who got killed.

This comes just days after another passenger plane crashed into the ground shortly after take off, killing all 168 people aboard.
