Government sanctions Rs3.08 crore to CBI for e-Governance
New Delhi, July 23(ANI): In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday Union Minister of State for the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan stated that a sum of Rs.3.08 crores had been sanctioned during the year 2008-09 under the Plan Scheme of "CBI e-Governance" for setting up a Wide Area Network and other e-Governance applications for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Chavan said the time taken to complete investigation of cases by the CBI depended on the nature of the cases, number of witnesses to be examined and the number and type of documents to be scrutinized. Though, it is the endeavour of the CBI to complete investigations in all cases at the earliest, no specific timeframe can be prescribed for completion of an investigation, Chavan added.
Chavan informed the House that as on December 31 last year, 1005 cases were pending with the CBI.
There is a laid down system in the CBI for regularly reviewing the progress of cases under investigation with a view to finalising them early, Chavan told members of the Upper House. (ANI)
