Abdul Kalam frisked at Delhi airport

New Delhi, Jul 21: Former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was frisked at the Delhi International Airport by the ground staff of Continental Airlines when he was travelling to US on Apr 24, 2009.

Sources at the airport said the staff of Continental Airlines frisked Kalam in second line of the security check. He was also asked for complete body check and take off his shoes as well.

However, the Continental Airlines argued that it was a regular security check as the policy of the company is to frisk everyone. They also said that there is no special rule for VIP or VVIP's.

A Public Relation Officer of Continental Airlines said, "He had to go through the entire security check because it is our policy to frisk everyone. This is the policy Continental Airlines follows over the world. There is no special rule for VIP or VVIP. In fact, Kalam was cooperative and underwent the entire process which happened over a month ago."

Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel said, "We will ask for correction action from the airlines and in case they are proven wrong, we will ask them to tender and apology."
