Rainstorms in South Korea, kill 5

Seoul, Jul 17: At least 5 South Koreans were killed and hundreds left homeless when heavy rain struck the south of the country on Friday, Jul 17, the disaster relief agency said.

The National Emergency Management agency said that three people were found dead in landslides of Busan and nearby areas after Thursday's, Jul 16 rainstorm.

The agency also said, "An elderly woman drowned in a rural area of South Gyeongsang province and a man operating a water pump was killed by an electric shock in South Jeolla province."

"Some 410 people were left homeless and over 1,200 houses were flooded or otherwise damaged throughout the region," the agency added.
