Uproar in Parliament over Joshi's arrest

New Delhi, Jul 16: UP Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi who was earlier arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Mayawati on Thursday, Jul 16 has been remanded for 14 days judicial custody .

Joshi was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Prashant Kumar. While, Joshi's arrest led to an instant uproar in both the Houses of Parliament.

Joshi claimed that her speech was taken in a 'different context'. She said, "I have put focus on a CM who has no sympathy for women. But I regret what I said in a fit of anger."

Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal said, "Joshi has been booked under 153 A (delivering inflammatory speeches) and section 109 of IPC (using abusive language) besides under provisions of SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act."

The court has refused the bail application of the UP Congress chief and directed that she be kept in the women's cell of Moradabad's district jail.
