94pct Oz kids like watching TV

Melbourne, July 15 (ANI): Television continues to invade the lives of Australian kids, according to a new survey.early 94 per cent of the children, aged between three and 17, watched in excess of one hour of TV a day, which increases to two hours for those over the age of eight.

The data compiled by the Australian Communications and Media Authority showed that although interest in other mediums, such as DVDs, videos and computers, both rose and fell depending on age, kids continued to watch TV at the same participation rates.

It showed that DVDs and videos were of most interest among three to four-year-olds but the interest seems to decrease, as children get older.

On the other hand, computer and Internet use increased with age, with 88 per cent of those aged 15 to 17 admitting using them.

According to Authority's chairman, Chris Chapman, the report provided a "generational snapshot" about technology while also revealing that television was the one enduring medium.

"The report is sure to inform further debate about the importance of digital media literacy as Australian parents mediate their children's evolving relationship with digital media and communications," News.com.au quoted him as saying. (ANI)
