France: Indian troops march in Bastille Day parade

Paris, Jul 14: While the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the French President Nicolas Sarkozy are amidst talks to strengthen Indo-French ties; the French and Indian troops will be marching side by side, down the Champs Elysees as a part of the France's Bastille Day military parade on Tuesday, Jul 14.

This marks the first time that the Indian and French troops will be marching at a parade together while the country's leaders watch. The Indian and French soldiers who have been practicing together for a week will be marching down the Parisian avenue together.

The special contingent from India consisting of 400 defence personnel was drawn from the army, navy and the airforce, and will be marching to the Indian martial music.

The invitation from France signifies the extent of closeness between India and France.

"It is symbolic of how close our strategic relations and confident we are that India and France are walking together in the world for peace and security," French ambassador to Delhi, Jerome Bonnafont said.
