Paris, July 14 (ANI): French First Lady Carla Bruni, it seems, has made a habit of appearing at state and official functions, both in France and abroad, in monochromatic outfits.

At Tuesday's French National Day celebrations where Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was the Chief Guest of Honour, Bruni, who was a prominent model in her earlier avtar and graced popular fashion magazines of the world like Vogue etc, wore a simple white shift dress and black ballet pumps.

Earlier this month, while on a visit to her home country Italy, where she went with President Sarkozy to attend the G-8 summit, France's Italian-born First Lady wore similar simple outfits, including a pale pink ensemble during a press conference in Rome.

She wore simple outfits while on visits to L'Aquila (the venue of the G-8 summit), the earthquake-hit areas of the town and in Turin, her hometown, where she and Sarkozy paid homage at the family graveyard.

The Indian Prime Minister's wife, Gursharan Kaur, on the other hand, wore a white silk sari with a pink pallu and border during today's ceremonies in Paris.

Another highlight of the event was that all dignitaries, including Sarkozy, Dr. Singh and their spouses did not take their seats while the parade was on. They stood. However, half way through the parade, Gursharan Kaur sat down. She tapped on Bruni's arms and also asked her to sit down, saying there was no need to stand up all the time. By Smita Prakash (ANI)
