First ever tribal play "Asang Eina Aton" staged in Manipur
Imphal, July 10 (ANI): "Asang Eina Aton", a play based on Tangkhul (a tribal community) folklore was recently staged at the J N Manipur Dance Academy in Imphal.
Delivered in the Tangkhul dialect, it is the first tribal play staged in Manipur in recent times.
Conceived and produced during a 45- day theatre workshop held at Tongou village in Ukhrul district recently, the drama was jointly produced by Khonjenlang and Meisum under the extension programme of the National School of Drama, New Delhi.
Theatre artist S Thaninleima directed the drama. The script has ben written by Asheng Zimik.
"The Tangkhul tribe is very rich in their cultural heritage and they have a variety of language. So as a theatre director, I wanted to explore into their rich culture. I wanted to find out why they haven't taken up theatre. So, I took up this challenge," Thaninleima said.
The play attracted a large number of people.
"I feel very happy. This harmony among the hills and valley people, staging a play together is very encouraging," said Awon, who watched the play.
The play is likely to be staged during the National Drama Festival in New Delhi. By L.C.K Singh (ANI)
