Burger King ad offends Hindus

Washington, Jul 9: Burger King landed itself into trouble with the US Hindu community. A Hindu advocacy group that has taken offense new ad that portrays goddess Lakshmi seated on a meat Burger, has asked the American fast food chain to remove the ads and not publish the print ad.

This ad was reportedly going to be featured as a print ad in Spain. The ad also carries a tag line that states, 'A snack that's sacred,' in Spanish.

The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) that is based in Washington wrote a letter to Burger King seeking an apology for lack of cultural and religious sensitivity.

Managing Director and legal counsel for the Foundation, Suhag Shukla who said that the using a scared image for commercial purposes was offensive, added that, "Compounding this insult is the use of the sacred image for the sale of a meat product -Burger King's judgement in associating a burger with a Hindu goddess is absolutely baffling."
