Tamil Nadu transport workers use shrouds in unique protest
Trichy (Tamil Nadu), July 8 (ANI): In a unique protest, scores of temporary employees of the State Road Transport Corporation at Trichy in Tamil Nadu have draped themselves in shrouds demanding permanent jobs.
The agitating employees said that over 1500 employees including drivers and conductors, who have been working as temporary employees in the corporation for many years, have not been granted permanent jobs.
"They were supposed to take a decision regarding the people they had hired after 240 days. But even after working for 400-500 days, they have not confirmed our jobs," said Christdoss, an employee.
The garlanded protestors resembled dead bodies. Hindu funeral rituals were also mimicked.
