Chidambaram invites Swaraj for a discussion on Varun Gandhi's security
New Delhi July 8 (ANI): Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has written a letter to the Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, giving details about the security arrangements made for BJP MP Varun Gandhi and also invited her for discussion on the matter.
"The Government has taken into account the inputs provided by intelligence agencies. As in the case of every other protected person, the level of security provided to Varun Gandhi is periodically reviewed," said Chidambaram in a letter to Sushma Swaraj.
Chidambaram invited Swaraj for a discussion a day after she made a statement in the Lok Sabha that Varun was not being provided with satisfactory security.
In his letter, Chidambaram said discussing the security arrangements of Varun Gandhi in Parliament would defeat the very purpose of providing security to him, and therefore, he was ready to explain the details to Swaraj if she wished.
According to sources the home ministry reviewed Gandhi's current Y category security and deemed it adequate.
After Varun's letter in March, to Chidambaram, his security was upgraded to Z category while in Delhi.
Last week, Varun's mother Maneka Gandhi wrote a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh alleging that the Home Ministry had a lackadaisical approach to threats on her son's life. (ANI)
