New Delhi, Jul 7: Supreme Court Judge, Justice Markandeya Katju on Monday, Jul 7 apologised for his comments on Muslim students that they cannot insist on sporting beards in schools as it would lead to 'Talibanisation of the country'.

A bench comprising Justices R V Raveendran and Katju also withdrew order dismissing Mohammed Salim's appeal against the school's decision not to allow him to keep his beard.

The bench said, "During the hearing, certain observations were made by one of us (Justice Katju). His intentions were not to offend anyone. However, if any one's feeling has been hurt, he apologises and expresses regret in the matter.
