Nirupama Rao takes over as new foreign secretary
New Delhi, Jun 30: Nirupama Rao, Indian ambassador to China has been named as the next foreign secretary on Tuesday, Jun 30.
58-year-old, Rao succeeds Shivshankar Menon who is said to retire on July 31. She is the second woman foreign secretary of India after Chokila Iyer.
Rao has served as Indian envoy to Sri Lanka and as the country's first woman spokesperson. Earlier, Rao had served Indian Missions in Washington and Moscow besides being the Ministry of External Affairs as Joint Secretary for East Asia.
