US: Swine Flu cases hit 1 million mark
Washington, Jun 26: In a shocking yet not so unexpected revelation, the US health ministry has announced that the number of H1N1 influenza or Swine Flu has hit one million.
The estimate announced by a government flu scientist added that about 6 per cent or more of the urban areas are infected. The experts who have been watching and studying the new expressed no shock over the numbers.
In a meeting of a vaccine advisory panel, Dr William Schaffner, a Vanderbilt University infectious diseases expert said, "We knew diagnosed cases were just the tip of the iceberg."
Lyn Finelli, a flu surveillance official with the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), made the estimate based on mathematical modeling based on surveys by the health officials.
