500K Brits still using mobiles while driving
London, May 26 (ANI): Despite various campaigns, nearly 500,000 motorists are using hand-held mobile phones while driving, a new UK study has found.
And the worst culprits are drivers of trucks and vans, the study found.
During a nationwide traffic study, road safety chiefs used spotters to tot up the number of people making calls, The Sun reported.
The Department of Transport survey shows 300,000 car-owners and 160,000 goods vehicle drivers use their mobile.
Lib Dem transport spokesman Norman Baker said: "The message is clearly not getting through.
"Despite tougher penalties a frightening number of drivers still use their mobile."
Motorists on the phone are blamed for the increase in dangerous and careless driving. (ANI)
