Mumbai: Police nab 5 youths accused of gang rape

Mumbai, Jun 20: Five youths who allegedly raped a 19 year old girl and circulated a video clip of of the assault were arrested by the police, on Saturday, Jun 20.

The girl apparently accompanied one of the boys who could have been her boyfriend to a hotel room in Thane where she was gang raped by five men. This happened on May 14 but the girl only filed the filed on Jun 19.

"We have nabbed three accused - Parag and Pankaj Mhatre, both brothers, and their classmate Hiren Patil. We are on a lookout for the other accused and hope to nab them shortly," Assistant Superintendent of Police Maithili Jha was quoted as saying in a news agency report.

The girl hesitated and delayed to file a complaint as the accused were blackmailing her and circulating the video clip around through MMS.

It is important to note that the number of the rape cases or cases of sexual perversion and assault report in the media have increased to a great extent.
