Shopian protests continue over alleged rape of Kashmiri women
Srinagar, June 19 (ANI): Security persons resorted to firing teargas shells on Friday at Nowhatta area of Srinagar to disperse a violent mob, which was staging protest over the alleged double rape and murder case of two women in Shopian last month.
Protestors hurled stones on the state Police and the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in response to which police took action, which left about 25 persons as injured during the police action.
The police personnel had to baton charge the agitating mob, which refused to disperse despite requests and warning.
As for the alleged rape and murder of the two women aged 17 and 22, the security agencies have denied.
Initially, the police said that the two women had died due to drowning in a stream.
Meanwhile shops, businesses and schools were shut across Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley after the state authorities called on for an undeclared curfew on Friday. (ANI)
