Sarod maestro Ali Akbar Khan no more
Kolkata, Jun 19: Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, the Sarod maestro passed away on Friday, Jun 19 in San Francisco in the United States after a prolonged kidney ailment.
Rabin Pal, the secretary of sitarist Pandit Ravi Shankar, said that the 88-year-old Khan died at his music centre at 10 am IST. Khan had been ailing for over four years and his condition worsened in the last four months.
Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, a recipient of Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, was a legend in the world of Indian classical music for the last five decades.
