Islamabad, June 15 (ANI): Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani has said that the military operation against the Taliban and other extremists in the Malakand and Swat region was launched to bring those people back on track who had deviated from their path due to certain circumstances.

General Kayani said the operation has aptly been named 'Rah-e-Rast' which means the 'right track'.

Addressing mediapersons here, General Kayani said Pakistan Army was well equipped and had the best knowledge about how to proceed in its operation, and that it does not require and foreign advice or help in this regard.

"No one could understand our country better than us and the best possible result could be evolved in the present situation for long term betterment," The News quoted General Kayani, as saying.

He said the Swat offensive was very much different from a conventional confrontation.

"In the ongoing war, it is difficult to distinguish friends and enemies," General Kayani added.

He said the ongoing conflict should not be termed war of Islam, as Baitullah Mehsud or Fazllulah were not any religious scholars. (ANI)
