PM leaves for Russia summits today

New Delhi, June 15 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh left for Russia on a three-day visit on Monday during which he is scheduled to attend two multilateral summits-BRIC and SCO.

This is his maiden foreign trip since the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance re-elected to form the government at the Centre under the leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

The main purpose of the visit to Yekaterinburg is to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and Brazil-Russia-India-China (BRIC) summits.

Dr. Singh will also meet Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari for the first time since the Mumbai 26/11 attacks suffered jolt to the peace process between the two neighbours.

Meanwhile, the main agenda of the summits is expected to include the global financial crisis, terrorism and food security. (ANI)
