Bardhan regrets disengaging with UPA over N-Deal
New Delhi, Jun 15: While listing the factors that led to Left's unprecedented defeat in West Bengal Communist party of Indian (CPI) National Secretary AB Bardhan expressed regret over Left's decision to withdraw support to the UPA Government on the Indo-US nuclear deal issue.
“What was the point in withdrawing support when it was only a question of outside support? We should have continued with our campaign and as far elections go we always fight separately, so a separate struggle would have taken place and a separate electoral fight would have continued," Bardhan said.
Apart from this he pointed out that Communist Party-Marxist (CPM) which unilaterally runs the Left in the state also failed to properly deal with the issues in relation to Nandigram and Singur. This statement by Bardhan comes after former party member Somnath Chatterjee said that the CPM has not been able to 'save the party'.
In the process of mulling over the poll debacle, it seems like the Left is now falling apart after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
