Pak student reveals his "mental torture" during detention in Britain

Islamabad, June 11 (ANI): Tariqur Rehman, one of the 10 Pakistan students arrested by British officials in a country wide terror crackdown has returned to Pakistan.

Talking to media persons upon his arrival in Islamabad, Rehman charged the British officials with treating the students as hardcore criminals during detention.

Rehman said the he was harassed in the jail, and was kept along with criminals charged with murder.

Distressed by the behaviour meted out to him, Rehman said he would never return to Britain again.

"The mental torture I suffered was worse than any physical torture," he said.

Rehman said the British officials went through their copies of the Holy Quran, and didn't allow them to offer prayers during their detention.

Meanwhile, a British Court, in its judgment, has said that reliance on secret evidence denies the suspects a fair trial.

The ruling is said to have dealt a major blow to the government's controversial use of 'control orders' on terror suspects.

According to the Dawn, the nine-judge panel led by Lord Philips of Worth Matravers, upheld a challenge on behalf of three men (not detained Pakistan students) on 'control orders'.

Sources said the judgment would boost the bail application of the other nine Pakistan students.

The bail application would come up before for hearing on July 27. (ANI)
