William Burns to arrive in India today

New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): US Under Secretary of State William Burns will arrive in India on a four-day visit today for talks on promoting bilateral relations between the US and India.

During his visit, Burns will meet with senior government officials and private sector leaders to discuss a broad agenda to further strengthen partnership between the two countries.

Burns is expected to meet External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and hold talks with Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon.

Issues like situation in Pakistan-Afghanistan region, Mumbai terror attacks and non-proliferation are likely to be discussed during the meeting.

In the backdrop of release of Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, the Indian side is expected to raise the issue with Burns. The Indian Government is expected to convey its disappointment over Pakistan's inaction against those responsible for the 26/11 attacks.

New Delhi considers that Saeed was set free by the Lahore High Court after six-month detention, as the Pakistan Government did not file sufficient charges against him.

During his stay, Burns will also visit Mumbai where he will interact with captains of industries on the greater bi-lateral economic engagement.

His trip to India will set the stage for the visit of American Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton to New Delhi in July. (ANI)
