Release Suu Kyi immediately: Hillary

Washington, Jun 9: The United States and Indonesia on Tuesday, Jun 9 asked Myanmar's military government to immediately release Aung San Suu Kyi.

The meeting between US secretary of state Hillary Clinton and Indonesian counterpart Noer Hassan Wirajuda at the headquarters of the state department was used as an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss the current situation in Burma.

Hillary said, "Let me again reiterate that the charges against her (Suu Kyi) are baseless." Hillary added, "We call for her immediate release."

Wirajuda said that Indonesia had issued strong statement in this regard last month. He also said, "We remind Myanmar of its obligation under the new ASEAN charter, and likewise through the previous calls made by our leaders to immediately release Suu Kyi."
