North East comes alive at Kamani auditorium in New Delhi
New Delhi, June 8 (ANI): Artistes from Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Assam danced to the sounds of the Dhol, Khol, Jhal and flute at the Festival of Traditional Dance and Music of Northeast held in Delhi's Kamani auditorium recently.
One of the highlights of the festival was the Reang dance of Tripura and the Cheraw of Mizoram.
The Reang tribe of Tripura performed the dance that showed how to balance lamps over heads. Mizoram followed up with the Cheraw or, bamboo dance.
" We have so many tribes in Tripura, and Reang is one of them. I feel that all communities will be promoted through dance and songs," said an artiste from Tripura.
For many artistes, it was also an opportunity to come across people of various tribes of different States.
"We are very happy to be here as we get to meet people from different tribes as well. This has given us an opportunity to get to know each other better," said Phidamon Kharsawian, an artiste from Meghalaya. rtists dressed in colourful traditional attires enthralled the audience with their folk songs and dance performances.
Organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). The event aimed at showcasing the culture of North Eastern States on one platform.
Besides bonding different communities, it also aimed at spreading the culture of northeastern states in other parts of India.
Their coming together at functions like this promotes harmony and development in the region, said N.N.Singh, festival Director.
People of the north-eastern states are now looking beyond regional boundaries for bigger platforms to showcase their talent and culture. By Deimebanda Blah (ANI)
