Kashmir Encounter: 3 militants killed by army

Srinagar, Jun 8: In a gunbattle between the security forces and infiltrating militants near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir's Kupwara district a major along with another army personnel and three militants were reportedly killed.

The encounter was triggered off on Monday, Jun 8 when army found a group of heavily-armed militants at Gulab Post, 130 kms from Srinagar, trying to sneak into the valley from across the border, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kupwara, Uttam Chand informed.

Following information about possible attempt by militants to sneak into the valley a search operation was reportedly launched three days back. The militants who saw that there were security forces carrying on the search operations, opened fire with an attempt to abort the mission to infiltrate and escape.
