Ward boy molests French woman in Kanpur

Kanpur, Jun 8: A ward boy reportedly molested a French woman at a government hospital in Kanpur where she was admitted for treatment.

Hariram Sharma, the Kanpur DIG said that the accused ward boy Ranvir Singh was arrested and an attempt to rape case was registered against him. Heather Bates, the 22-year-old French national along with her British friend James Hawkins was going to Patna in a train when they both fell ill after consuming some food in the train.

They were then taken to the railway hospital in Kanpur, from where they were shifted to the state-run Hallett Hospital on Saturday, Jun 6. Later on evening, Bates, who was admitted to the ICU of the hospital complained to the doctors that a ward boy tried to rape her. The incident was informed to the police.

Police also said that the Hospital authorities tried to supress the news and only after Bates threatened to report to the French Embassy, that the authorities took action.
