Malaysian PM hopes Indian community will work harder to boost their children's education

Kuala Lumpur, June 7 (ANI): Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has appreciated the achievement of the Malay Indian students, and hoped that community would work harder to boost the performance of their children.

Speaking at the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia 2008 Excellent Student Award ceremony here, Razak said his government had approved additional allocations for the development of Indians in education.

He also urged the Malay population to accept all the races instead of being just tolerant towards each other.

He said the shift of attitude from tolerance to acceptance was necessary so that no race would feel neglected.

"To be tolerant alone, some may not like it, but if the attitude is changed to acceptance, the plural society concept will not only being seen as unique but would also bring strength to our country," The New Strait Times quoted Razak, as saying.

Razak said the concept was in line with 'One Malaysia' and if fully understood, it could bring the country to greater success.

He stressed on the importance of identifying the needs of each ethnic group, and formulating policies accordingly.

Razak said his government emphasized on the human capital development to make sure people earned higher incomes, and this could only be achieved through knowledge. (ANI)
