Bangalore, June 7(ANI): Social activists and volunteers of NGOs in cooperation with the agencies of the United Nations hosted a 'End Hunger' walk in Bangalore, as part of its initiative to spread mass awareness about hunger in the world.

The 'End Hunger Walk' is an annual campaign that was launched in 2003 by the Untied Nations. People in 70 countries undertake this walk on the same day to spread awareness about hunger and ask for contributions to fight hunger globally.

"We feel that child malnutrition is most important issue, particularly children below three years old. We want to be focussed on this age group particularly in India. So we are trying to feed children at school through school feeding programme," said Mihoko Tamamura, of World Food Programme, a downstream organ of the United Nations.

He said that malnutrition amongst children was a major cause of concern and measures had been initiated to over come the problem as quickly as possible.

The young and old alike from different walks of life participated with immense enthusiasm to make this event, dedicated to a noble cause, a huge success.

The money collected from this initiative will be used to feed the children in the age group of 3 to 6 years and also many other children belonging to underdeveloped countries to fight malnutrition.

According to UN statistics, every year at least 25,000 people die of hunger all over the world of it 18,000 are children.

Hence, the United Nations is concentrating to eradicate the existing food problem. (ANI)
