Protests continue over alleged murder of two women in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, June 6(ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Police resorted to baton charge and fired tear gas shells to quell agitated people, who pelted stones at them while protesting the death of two women allegedly by some security personnel.

Life remained paralysed in the region due to the separatist-sponsored strike, which continued to disrupt normal life for the sixth consecutive day.

Government offices, educational institutions, banks, courts and semi-government institutions besides markets remained closed.

Local residents alleged that two women had been abducted, raped and killed by security forces on Friday in Shopian town of Srinagar.

However, authorities have denied the killing and said that they had drowned in a stream.

Jammu and Kashmir's chief minister, Omar Abdullah, has ordered a judicial inquiry into the deaths.

As the situation remained tense, security personnel were patrolling the deserted streets of Srinagar to maintain law and order. (ANI)
