Satyam to layoff 5,000 non-techies

Hyderabad, Jun 5: Satyam Computers full board meet is scheduled to be held on Jun 11. After the meet, Tech Mahindra the new owner will assume charge and the board may draw a consensus on the sensitive issue of laying off as many as 5,000 employees in different phases.

The full board comprising of six government-nominated members and four member of Tech Mahindra will discuss the business strategies. Vineet Nayar, Tech Mahindra CEO had earlier said that Satyam has about 10,000 surplus staff and the company is looking for ways to handle the issue 'least painfully'. Meanwhile, Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurseed had said the government will not turn a blind eye to any lay-offs in Satyam.

Sources said the company may be forced to ask about 5,000 employees to leave out of the support staff, who are not on the software projects.
