US seeking extra 200-mn dollar for displaced in Pakistan: Holbrook
Islamabad, June 3 (ANI): US special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke on Wednesday said the United States is seeking an extra 200 million dollar in emergency aid to help Pakistanis displaced by a military offensive in the northwest against the Taliban.
"Today, the president has asked me to inform you and your government that he has requested the Congress of the United States to allocate an additional 200 million dollars," The News quoted Holbrooke, as saying.
"Our delegation has come at very short notice at the personal instruction of President (Barack) Obama," US special envoy told a news conference in Islamabad flanked by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari.
"He sent our team to Pakistan to do several things, first to show our concern to the people of Pakistan and to the world our concern for the internal refugees," Holbrooke added. (ANI)
