Seven terrorist cells destroyed in the of China's Kashi region

Beijing, June 3(ANI): Extremist activities in China's Kashi region have taken a major hit with China destroying seven terrorist cells.

Kashi which shares a border with India, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan, has long served as a launching ground for terrorists, reports Ciu Jia.

Reports were ripe about presence of terrorists in the region who cloak themselves as Muslims from neighboring countries and target locals who can't speak Mandarin. Through illegal preaching they used to lead these locals into terrorist activities.

According to Zhang Zian, Party Secretary of Kashi, 350 terrorist attacks have killed 60 government officials and civilians in the region since the 1990's.

In a incident last year, 17 people were killed and 15 were injured when the Uygur men armed with guns, knives, axes and explosives attacked the police.

There has been 11 riots calling for separation since the founding of China, many of these riots were suppressed.

"We know that the extremists will keep attempting to separate Xinjiang from China, and we know they will never get what they want," Zhang said. (ANI)
