Meira Kumar asserts she will be impartial in her job
New Delhi, June 3(ANI): After being unanimously chosen as Speaker of Lok Sabha, Meira Kumar reiterated on Wednesday that she would be impartial in executing her tasks as the presiding officer of the lower house of the parliament.
"It would be my endeavour that I am completely impartial in my conduct and I will give opportunity to all the members to express their views. There should be healthy, meaningful debate in the house," said Meira Kumar.
The first woman Speaker said that her election to the coveted post shows India's indication of giving women their due recognition.
"These are indicators of a genuine intention to make the position of women stronger in India," Meira Kumar added.
She also hoped that all the parties would arrive at a consensus to legislate the long pending Women's Reservation Bill.
"I sincerely hope that all the parties arrive at a consensus," Meira Kumar observed. (ANI)
