Taliban fear still haunts Buner govt. employees
Buner (Pakistan), June 2 (ANI): Despite the Pakistan Government's declaration that peace has been restored in Buner, many government employees are reluctant to come back and resume their duties out of the fear of the Taliban.
On Sunday, the North West Frontier Province Government asked all government employees to resume their duties, but a majority refused to come back.
A number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) admitted that they were under tremendous psychological pressure and were still haunted by the fear of the Taliban.
Sher Zamin Khan, who witnessed trucks, pick-ups and tractor-trolleys loaded with luggage on their way to Buner, confirmed that very few families have returned.
"Only about 30 families moved back. It was evident from their grim faces that they were forced to return," the Daily Times quoted Khan, as saying.
The main reason behind the prevalent fear among Buner residents is that police stations are yet to function, and most of them are busy protecting their own premises.
"I went to my village on Sunday to examine the scene. It is very obvious that in the present situation, it will be difficult to leave for our homes and resume our duties," Ameer Zada, a primary school teacher said.
Some government employees had moved to their houses in Buner but had then returned to the relief camps within days. (ANI)
